Let’s give away Quebec

To the Editor,

We all read about Donald Trump wanting to make Canada the 51st state and Justin Trudeau to be its governor, so why doesn’t Canada offer to give them the province of Quebec, then Trudeau could be its governor?

If memory serves me, didn’t Quebecers hold a vote to separate from Canada but stayed with a 51% to remain in Canada?

I feel that the rest of Canada would be a better place without them.

Candidate messaging in this election

To the Editor,

February 18 when I went to my mailbox there was a card from one of the candidates running in the February 27 Provincial Election. On the front of the card was a picture of the candidate along with the current Premier asking for our vote.

Turn to the reverse side of the card and it was slamming our current MPP, who is running as a candidate once more. I have to wonder about the integrity of a candidate that has nothing positive to say, nothing that they would propose to actually do if elected. The negativity is not what voters are looking for in a candidate. And I am not sure how credible the facts were.

The Haldimand Press has done a wonderful job sending out questions to each of the candidates so that the Haldimand Norfolk voters can be better informed in who they would like to vote for.

The candidate that sent the card out did not address a number of questions in their reply to The Haldimand Press. They could not or would not answer listing the top issues facing Haldimand in the next four years; the debate between increased development versus keeping Haldimand’s small town status; thoughts on the potential Minister’s Zoning Order; how to support Haldimand’s aging population; and what they see as a current failure of the provincial government and how they would address it.

I find that this candidate is either out of touch with the folks of Haldimand or is proving before the election that they would be incapable of serving the needs of Haldimand County.
