YORK—What do the Hamilton Ti-Cats football team, Hamilton Food Share, and Snyder’s Sweet Corn have in common? All three organizations are passionate about feeding their community.
As part of their mandate to support organizations that “feed and protect,” Snyder’s Sweet Corn partners with the Hamilton Food Share to distribute fresh corn throughout Hamilton and surrounding areas. Food Share is able to distribute large volumes of fresh produce quickly, ensuring each “Snyder dozen” that is donated ends up on someone’s table while still fresh and delicious.
Every summer, Food Share partners with the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Ti-Cats for the Purolator Tackle Hunger Challenge, and this year Snyder’s was awarded the grand prize for this food drive, which was held leading up to the Ti-Cats’ Labour Day Classic game.
“Enjoying fresh produce should never be limited to those with means,” says Brenda Snyder. “Our communities are better when we all work together!”
Celebrating together is as important as working together. On Monday, September 30 the “Corny Crew” was thrilled to share a pizza party with three players from the Hamilton Ti-Cats. It was an exciting afternoon for both groups as some of the Corny Crew got to meet these talented athletes, while the Ti-Cats players got to learn about the farm operation.
“Purolator Tackle Hunger has become an outstanding tradition for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and is a fantastic way to raise awareness about food inequality while helping to alleviate hunger in our community,” explains Kyle Lohnes, Ti-Cats Vice President of Partnerships & Retail. “The event was a success yet again this year and we couldn’t have done it without our incredible fans, players, staff, and everyone who came together to support this important initiative.”
