Tornado confirmed north of Caledonia

CALEDONIA—Northern Tornadoes Project investigators have determined an EF0 tornado caused tree damage near Caledonia on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

According to investigators, the tornado left a path of tree damage around 5km long northeast of Caledonia. The path of damage included snapped and broken branches. A small trailer was also flipped over near the start of the track. No significant damage was reported.

An EF0 tornado is considered light and sees wind speeds of between 105 and 137km/h.

The Northern Tornadoes Project was founded in 2017 at Western University with the support of ImpactWX. It aims to detect and document all tornadoes in Canada and uncover Canada’s true tornado climatology.
