CAYUGA—Green and gold was on display at Cayuga Secondary School on November 14, 2024 as members of the football and cheer teams welcomed guests for a spaghetti dinner.
Students and teachers worked side by side at the fundraiser, with music played by the DJ.
This was the first ever spaghetti fundraiser for the football team. For only $25 visitors were served a meal of home cooked pasta, garlic toast, Caesar salad, and of course dessert – buttertart sundaes.
Coach Mike Forster and assistant coaches Nick Brimmer and Nick Tregoning arranged this fundraiser with the hopes of attracting 100 guests for the evening. Cash donations were also accepted to help bring the team to their goal of purchasing new helmets.
The unique evening also included speeches, line dancing, and games to be played along with the dinner.
CSS Principal Amber Mitchell said, “I am very proud on how our students have come together to prepare the food, make the pastry, serve the food, set up the tables, clean up afterward. And the growth and development of having run this event. Showing the clout that they have in the community. And I have to say that the whole football team coming back this year has had some positive impact on school spirit and our community coming together.”
Coach Forster commented, “One of the pillars of our program is community involvement. And what we are doing here tonight is just giving the community an opportunity to come on out and meet the kids and have a great meal. To show them why they are our supporting us – and support is not just monetary sense … but support for this program, and this community.”
“So really in essence, what we are doing tonight is bringing people together,” he concluded. “This is something we will continue to do as long as we are working with this program.”
