93-year-old makes and donates over 100 poppies to recognize lost veterans

SELKIRK—Ninety-three year old Olive Hoskin resides at Norview Lodge in Simcoe. She is very creative and thoroughly enjoys spending her time crafting and crocheting.  She has made over 100 poppies that she has not only provided to the Selkirk Chamber of Commerce Poppy Project, but she is also giving them to family, friends, fellow residents, and staff members at Norview. Seeing people enjoy the items that she makes brings Olive so much joy. Her many creations are displayed in the home’s gift shop. “God gives me the strength to carry on and I trust Him for my health and keeping me safe and I want to give a little blessing to those around me,” said Olive. “I appreciate the opportunity to contribute to a project that is recognizing those we have lost. I know what it feels like to lose someone in the war as I lost family members and friends.” The Selkirk Poppy Project has been diligently working to finish their display, which will soon be put up at the Memorial Gates in recognition of veterans.             —Submitted photo.
