CAYUGA—Local citizen Brian Grappa appeared before Council on August 27 to speak about an issue which he claims is causing an increasing amount of trouble in his neighbourhood. The issue in question refers to excessive noise from planes taking off from a runway located at 5820 Highway 3, Cayuga. The planes are owned and operated by local business Skydive Ontario, run by Jeff King.

“People don’t want to come home. You can’t carry on a conversation with a neighbour. It’s brutal, and it has been going on for three years,” states Grappa. “It is a constant, whining, droning noise.”

Grappa is quick to state that he is not trying to have Skydive Ontario shutdown. “I’m not looking for a fight, just that they show some respect to citizens. We’ve been out here way before he was.”

Despite Grappa’s stated intentions, a group of frustrated citizens appeared during his presentation at Council, visibly angry and upset. Tensions rose even higher when King himself arrived at the session. Mayor Ken Hewitt was forced to threaten to remove members of the group after repeated warnings regarding their behaviour.
