DUNNVILLE—The geese are flying, the wind is howling, and the temperatures are dropping. Fall is here! Gardeners are working hard to put their gardens to bed, preparing them for winter. Now is a perfect time to plant a tree or shrub as they enter their period of dormancy. Dunnville Horticultural Society (DHS) planted three trees with local schools who participated in our School Challenge at the grand opening of the Thompson Creek Eco Centre. Dunnville Christian School planted a red maple, while Thompson Creek Elementary and Dunnville Secondary School  (DSS) planted cherry birch. It was exciting to see so many students involved! The younger students especially had many questions for Adam Koziel of Earthgen who supplied the trees, compost, and muscles for the digging.

Thompson Creek’s Blue Planet Eco Club is shown with their cherry birch from DHS.

DHS was proud to attend commencement at DSS on October 11. We awarded our second bursary to deserving DSS graduate Kelly Ruigrok, who has gone on to study agriculture at Guelph University.
