CALEDONIA—Haldimand Council will not reduce the speed on Claymore Crescent in Caledonia because staff cannot see how it differs from other county roads.
“I don’t believe it is a unique situation. I believe there are similar situations across the county and approving this change will open the door to many more requests,” said Chief Administrative Officer Craig Manley.
The reduction of speed request on Claymore Crescent was made by Councillor Dan Lawrence, who said the reduction is warranted because of the number of children playing in the area. However, Lawrence agreed to leave the speed as is after staff said many municipalities, as well as the province, are looking at changing the overall policy for speed limits within residential areas.
“It makes sense to me and is totally understandable to want to make something that is consistent for all requests,” said Lawrence.
