To the Editors,

Mr. Gaunt from Hagersville sends so many letters defending teachers, I’m beginning to wonder if maybe he has close relatives in the profession. However, in his most recent defence, he makes some statements of overkill, some from a limited perspective, some insulting, and some that compare apples to oranges.

He starts this parade by apparently equating elementary school students in the 50s with first cousins to Neanderthals (“would not qualify for admittance to any high school in 2020” and “almost no job he could fill”). With the current philosophy of “nobody fails” (that would damage their self-esteem!), it seems that everyone today qualifies for high school, regardless of education. As for filling a job, 14-year-olds have limited employment opportunities regardless of the generation into which they were born.
