Five arrested for impaired driving in three days

HALDIMAND—Haldimand OPP have charged five individuals over the course of three days with impaired driving in the county.

On Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 3:15 p.m., OPP responded to Diltz Road in Dunn-ville for a report of a single vehicle collision where a vehicle had collided into the ditch. Officers attended, spoke with the driver, and detected signs of impairment.

Further investigation determined the driver was involved in another collision on Highway 3 in Dunnville. There were no injuries and no other vehicles involved. A Drug Recognition Evaluator administered tests and investigation determined the driver was impaired by drug.

OPP charged a 52-year-old of Canfield with:

• Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
• Operate a motor vehicle while prohibited (3 counts)
• Drive while under suspension (3 counts)
• Fail to remain at the scene of a collision
• Drive motor vehicle with no current valid permit

That night at 12 a.m., OPP were conducting patrols on King Street in Hagersville when a vehicle caught the attention of an officer. Officers followed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on John Street, where they investigated. While speaking with the driver, signs of impairment were detected and the driver was placed under arrest.
