HAGERSVILLE/LOWBANKS—A 27-year-old female and a 53-year-old man were both pronounced deceased on Sunday, March 14, 2021 due to injuries sustained in two separate accidents in Haldimand County.
On March 11, police, fire services, and paramedics responded to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 6 between 3rd and 4th Line in Hagersville. Investigation has shown a grey sedan and black sedan were both travelling northbound when they collided and left the roadway. The grey sedan rolled over, ejecting the female passenger who then appeared unresponsive on the scene according to a witness report. The woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at hospital on Sunday. She has been identified as Ashley Banner of Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
The 23-year-old male driver of the grey sedan, from Dunnville, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been charged with:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
- Failure/refusal to provide a breath sample
- Fail to comply with a probation order (3 counts)
- Drive motor vehicle without a driver’s licence
The driver of the black sedan was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene and are assisting with the investigation,” said OPP Media Relations Officer Rod LeClair. “Highway 6 was closed between 3rd Line and 4th Line for six hours while emergency crews and investigators were on scene.”
On Sunday, March 14 OPP, fire services, and paramedics responded to the scene of an ATV accident on North Shore Drive in Lowbanks at approximately 6 p.m.
“OPP investigation has determined the ATV was travelling eastbound on North Shore Drive when the rider lost control and was ejected, suffering life-threatening injuries as a result,” said a release from LeClair.
The man was transported to a local area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as Philip Phelps of Lowbanks.
“OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene and are assisting with the investigation,” said LeClair. “North Shore Drive was closed between Moulton-Sherbrooke Townline and Farr Road for approximately six hours while emergency crews and investigators were on scene.”
OPP continues to investigate both of the above incidents.
