CALEDONIA—La Fortune Park is a popular destination for dog walkers, hikers, nature enthusiasts, disc golf, and geocaching. Thanks to a new pollinator garden that was planted on June 8, 2021, it will also be a favourite location for butterflies and bees.
Kerry Royer, Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) Community Liaison Coordinator, explains that the creation of the garden is part of the Mickey DiFruscio and Family Legacy Pollinator Project. DiFruscio, age 94, was an NPCA Board Member for 25 years and a strong advocate for pollinators, including his favourite, the Monarch butterflies. She says, “The project was started in his name to recognize the value of pollinators. Pollinators have a lot of benefits for the ecosystem.”
