COVID outbreak declared at WHGH

To The Haldimand Press

HAGERSVILLE — In consultation with the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit, an outbreak has been declared on the Inpatient Unit  at West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH) after three patients tested positive for COVID-19.

The outbreak was announced on Saturday, January 22, 2022 after the unit met the definition for an outbreak.

WHGH has implemented comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control precautions. Enhanced cleaning has been implemented, contact tracing is ongoing, and patients are being monitored closely for COVID-19 symptoms.

Patients and health care workers on the affected unit are being tested.

Essential Care Providers are no longer permitted to enter the unit except under exceptional circumstances in consultation with the patient’s care team. WHGH’s existing visitor restrictions remain in place.

These temporary measures are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of our patients, staff, physicians, and the community.

We understand it is difficult for families and friends to be separated from their loved ones during this period. We encourage people to use technology to connect with our patients.

We want to reassure the public that WHGH is working diligently to control and contain this outbreak and is using our expertise and resources as efficiently as possible. Our staff and physicians are continuing to provide care and comfort to our patients and community during this outbreak.
