DUNNVILLE—Following two years of forced cancellations throughout the pandemic, the Dunnville Mudcat Festival made its triumphant return this past weekend, bringing with it a large variety of events and activities that drew thousands of people.

“I must say, the restaurants are busy, gas stations are steady, the midway is packed, Central Park is packed, the strongman/strongwoman competition had a great crowd, along with the bed races,” said Dunnville resident and bed race participant Don Zynomirski, who estimated that roughly 1,000 people were in the crowd for both those events, along with another 550 for the family movie night, and packed venues for the various concerts that took place over the weekend.

Children were a focus for the fun, which included various activities to do and famous characters for them to meet.

“This all started with Marianne and her team of leaders making this event a success with their vision, passion, and tenacity to make it happen,” said Zynomirski of the Dunnville Chamber of Commerce organizing committee and President Marianne Kidd. “The community thanks everyone who had a part in this event. Congrats team.”

While some residents made note of vandalism during the weekend, including photos of smashed windows appearing on the social media group ‘Dunnville Talks’, the vast majority in attendance walked away with great memories of a return to celebrating with the community.

“Special thanks to our volunteers from our Mudcat Committee who worked all day and night without taking a break,” said a post made to the Mudcat Festival page following the event. “We couldn’t have done this without you all.”
