CAYUGA—Following the club’s practice on June 14, Athletiques International coach Bruce Burton predicted that 14-year-old Abby Martin was set to make a breakthrough.

Next, a 1:03.43 Personal Record (PR) from Martin over 400m on June 21, in running shoes, provided an inkling of what may be coming. Five days later, those present at Mohawk Sports Park in Hamilton witnessed her making short work of some of the fastest Under-16 girls in Ontario, including OFSSA Novice qualifier Philly van Nooten of Brantford.
