CAYUGA—Jarvis Public School and River Heights Elementary School were the big winners on October 13, 2022, taking home two banners each from the Haldimand County Elementary Schools Cross Country Championships, held at Ruthven Park National Historical Site. Oneida and Walpole North took home one each. Banner winners are determined by the finishing positions of the top two girls and top two boys in each grade; the finishing position times are added together, and the lowest total wins.
Other schools may not have had strong teams, but still managed to have individual winners. The top three finishers in each race were:
Grade 3 girls – Scarlett Fulsom, JL Mitchener; Nicole Kidd, Thompson Creek; Annie Sheppard, Jarvis; Grade 3 boys – Carter Barrick, Thompson Creek; Colby Metcalfe, Jarvis; Andrew Helder, Walpole North. Jarvis Public School won the banner.
Grade 4 girls – Ivory Smelser, Rainham Central; Sammy Franko, Seneca Central; Liilah Pond, Rainham Central; Grade 4 boys – Henry Kuckyt, Oneida Central; Bryce Robertson, Oneida Central; Landon Courneyea, Hagersville. Oneida Central won the banner.
Grade 5 girls – Lucy Robitaille, River Heights; Adele DesRiviere, River Heights; Macen McKenna, River Heights; Grade 5 boys – Nolan Dutcher, Jarvis; Rowan McCormack, Thompson Creek; Ryker Hurd, Seneca Central. River Heights won the banner.
Grade 6 girls – Eva Cucuz, Seneca Central; Never Coles, Caledonia Centennial; Madelyn Snell, Caledonia Centennial; Grade 6 boys – Chase Witwell, Jarvis; Mason Fernandes, Walpole North; Quinn McCormack, Thompson Creek. Walpole North won the banner.
Grade 7 girls – Emma Howarth, Walpole North; Tori D’angela, Oneida Central; Claire Trevor, Jarvis; Grade 7 boys – Colby Dutcher, Jarvis; Matty Thompson, Hagersville; Mark Annett, River Heights. Jarvis won the banner.
Grade 8 girls – Ella Courneyea, Hagersville; Arika Drehemer, Rainham Central; Keira Muirhead, River Heights; Grade 8 boys – Owen Mathieson, Seneca Central; Daniel Venture, Jarvis; Dante Davidson, Oneida Central. River Heights won the banner.
