To the Editor,

I am finally moved to write just how dissatisfied I am with Leslyn Lewis as our MP. Firstly though, it behooves me to say that I have never voted for the Conservative Party. I do however recognize and appreciate talented politicians of all stripes who work to represent the interests of their constituents. I believe Toby Barrett did a good job for the residents of Haldimand Norfolk. I am very impressed with the work of Bobbi Ann Brady, whose weekly newsletters are very informative. Our previous MP, Diane Finley, had a very high profile in the riding, frequently seen at community celebrations and regularly communicating with constituents through newsletters.

What have we heard from Leslyn Lewis? We have had ONE newsletter to my knowledge, published in the Maple Leaf well over a year ago, and a standard Christmas wish published in December. Aside from that, she has been virtually invisible in the riding. Let us be honest: Lewis used us, the residents of Haldimand Norfolk, to launch a failed bid for the leadership of the Conservative Party. She has no interest in us or our concerns.

To cap it all, it is reported that she and two other Conservatives had dinner with a member of Germany’s Alternative for Germany Party, a right-wing populist party that is anti-immigration. Part of this party was even put under surveillance by German authorities as a possible extremist group. This party has also made light of the Holocaust and Hitler’s dictatorship. The meeting was even condemned by her own leader, Pierre Poilievre.

My letter is not a call to the voters of this constituency to vote for the candidate of another political party. It is a request to the local Conservative Party Riding Association to choose next time a candidate who has roots in our counties and who clearly understands our concerns.

Graham L. Brown,

Port Dover
