HAGERSVILLE—Last Thursday, March 23, 2023 we held the 44th draw of Hagersville’s Catch the Ace.

We sold a record 132,000 tickets and we took in over $880,000 dollars. That brought the weekly winner’s 20% portion to a fantastic $176,514.

Lion Rock ‘N’ Ray Michaels picked the ticket and the winner was Jim Nie of Dunnville. Jim retired a year ago after working in the steel industry in Nanticoke and Hamilton. His wife Martha is a teacher who taught in several schools in Haldimand.

When asked how they plan to spend their winnings, they said they hope to visit their daughter out west and do some renovations on their house. They were so happy and thankful for this windfall.

We have eight more envelopes to open and the Ace of Spades could be in the next one or in the last one – who knows! If the Ace of Spades is caught this week the winner would receive around $170,000 in weekly winnings plus the estimated $1.76 million jackpot for a total takeaway of $1,930,000.

Whose life will be changed forever? What could the winner do with all the money? Have you asked this question yourself? Everyone has different needs and different dreams – and it is fun to think ‘what if’, isn’t it?

I myself don’t have to think about it because I’m not allowed to play. You can, but you have to be in it to have a chance to win it. The beauty of it is that half of your money will be used to support good causes.

Come again this Thursday to the Hagersville Legion at 5 Alma Street. Ticket sales run from 9 a.m. to 7:50 p.m. The draw will be live on Facebook at ‘Hagersville Lions Club – New Page’ starting at 8 p.m.
