HALDIMAND—Haldimand County added an additional 10 employees to this year’s Sunshine List compared to last year.
The list comprises public sector employees earning salaries of $100,000 and up. As the County has in the past, their staff report on the list calls out its growing irrelevancy, noting that the threshold has been the same since 1996 and that it would now be $174,000 in 2023 if it had increased with inflation each year.
The list of employees this year include 23 non-management staff who exceeded the $100,000 threshold through either additional temporary assignments or banked leave payouts, with County staff pointing out that the list will only grow larger and larger each year until the process changes.
Once again, County CAO Craig Manley sits at the top of the pile. Retiring this May, Manley earned $210,834.54 for his work in 2022. The next highest salary went to Financial and Data Services Manager Mark Merritt, bringing home $181,621.35.
Corporate and Social Services Manager – and incoming interim County CAO – Cathy Case, Engineering and Capital Works Manager Tyson Haedrich, and Public Works Operations Manager Philip Mete all earned in surplus of $170,000, while Community and Development Services Manager Mike Evers and Human Resources Director Megan Jamieson took home over $160,000.
The list also included 11 paramedics and one registered nurse.
While Ken Hewitt was not listed on Haldimand’s Sunshine List, as he is no longer an employee of the County, information included in a subsequent Council renumeration memo shows the former mayor earned $102,044 in 2022, with the six ward councillors each earning between $55-$60,000.
