DUNNVILLE—The Port Maitland ‘On the Grand’ Historical Association held a ceremony at Centennial Park (Thompson Creek) in Dunnville on the morning of Saturday, April 15, 2023. A Vimy Oak Tree and an informational tablet were dedicated in honour of the Battle of Vimy Ridge (April 9-12, 1917) and the soldiers who fought there. The tablet explains, “This oak tree descends from an acorn sent home from the battleground at Vimy Ridge by Leslie Miller in 1917. Seeded April 2017 – Planted 2021.” The Dunnville Legion took part in this dedication ceremony, including the Colour Party.
