Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Hospice Niagara – Walker House, Welland, in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late John Bergsma (2008). Loving mother of Henny Rouse (Tom), Erick (Susan), Sandra James (Neal), and Mark (Yvonne). Cherished Oma to nine grandchildren and proud great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Janny (The Netherlands), Wilhelmina (California), Elly (Kitchener), Ena (†2001), Pieter (Andrea – Stouffville), and Corriëtte (Toronto). Born in the Netherlands, she moved with her parents and family to France as a young girl. Johanna and John met on the family farm, they were married in 1953, started a family and then immigrated to Canada in 1957. Over the years, they made their home in Brantford, Lowbanks, Dain City, Dunnville, and most recently Port Colborne, Ontario. Johanna worked with compassion at Shalom Manor until retirement. She loved time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Favourite past times were playing card or board games, bike rides along the canal, car rides and memorable vacations away, especially in Hilton Head. Funeral service at Maranatha Reformed Church, Wainfleet, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to BALLARD MINOR FUNERAL HOME, 315 Broad Street East, Dunnville (905)774-7277.
