HALDIMAND—The Haldimand Choralairs will look a little different after this spring concert season as Choir Director Dr. Stillman Matheson will be stepping down after nine years on the job.

“His expertise as a musician and teacher has enhanced the choir’s choral experience and brought new depths to their singing. He expertly and diligently guided them to stretch their musical talents far beyond what they thought possible,” said Haldimand Choralairs President Karen Richardson in a press release.

“The choir will be forever grateful to his dedication, loyalty, patience, tutelage, and masterful direction,” continued Richardson.

Matheson said he originally heard about the job opening on the Royal Canadian College of Organists website as he was, and still is, always keeping an eye out for interesting opportunities for freelance engagements as a musician.

“Even though the deadline for applications had passed, I made inquiries and was told that I was still welcome to apply for the position,” said Matheson. “Not long after that, I went for an interview and was offered the job, and started that fall.”
