HALDIMAND—The Alzheimer Society of Ontario is delighted to announce the launch of Our Connections Matter, a campaign focused on togetherness, community, and breaking down barriers to dementia.
In Canada, there are over 600,000 thousand Canadians living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, many of whom feel isolated and like they are facing it alone. That number is expected to triple by 2050.
By the same year, more than 1 million Canadians will serve as care providers to people with dementia. This translates to over 1.4 billion hours of care per year, or the equivalent of 690,000 full-time jobs.
No one should experience dementia alone, especially when help and support are close at hand.
At OurConnectionsMatter.com, you will find a variety of resources and support programs consolidated in one place for ease of use and increased accessibility. Anyone in need can connect with us and find the help they need to be more fully equipped to navigate the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
For 40 years, the Alzheimer Society has been the first point of contact for over 282,000 people living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in Ontario. Our province-wide support programs continue to be a source of knowledge, support, and hope for individuals, families, care providers, and healthcare professionals.
The enormous impact of dementia on Canada cannot be understated, and it’s only getting worse.
With Our Connections Matter, our vital support networks are now more accessible to those in need than ever.
“Going through a pandemic has shown people how important human connections are,” says Cathy Barrick, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Ontario. “People living with dementia face isolation every day, and at the Alzheimer Society it’s our job to connect people to support, education, and resources that can help. We build connections that matter.”
This program takes us one step closer to spreading the awareness necessary to combat this disease; to ensure no one experiences dementia alone; and to building meaningful connections that matter with other community members, experts, healthcare providers, advocates, and carers alike.
