One of the things I love about being retired is having the flexibility to take advantage of unexpected opportunities – as was the case one morning when I was invited in for a cup of coffee by Judy Culp and her partner Bob Bailey. They have a lovely home on the shores of Lake Erie in South Cayuga with a stunning view of the lake. Along with the coffee came the offer of a sweet treat – of course I couldn’t say no! The cookie I was enjoying was called “Butterscotch Crunchy Cookies”. Judy used to make these but she got to the point that mixing this recipe by hand was getting a bit strenuous, so Bob took over. Now he enjoys finding new recipes to make and sharing them with his neighbours. He said he received some British biscuits for Christmas one year, and Judy enjoyed them so much that Bob sought out a recipe to see if he could make them. His first attempt of the “HobNob Biscuits” resulted in a hard bullet of a cookie. The second try ended with the dough spreading and connecting the entire cookie sheet. Not to be discouraged, he added the chocolate, used the pizza cutter to cut them, and took them to share with the church group. Low and behold everyone loved them!
Bob also made the “Rice Krispies Cheese Crisps” to share with neighbours up the road. When Bob saw the neighbour at a later date, he asked if they had liked the cheese crisps. She replied that unfortunately her husband didn’t have a chance to try them as she had eaten them all before he got home! Guess they were good!
