A Taste of Haldimand – January 25, 2024

Nothing starts off the new year better than spending time with great friends – talking, laughing, and sharing good food. When I moved into my current home, I wanted to do something new over the holidays. I decided to host a New Year’s Day potluck lunch. There were 16 guests and I’d known them all for decades. 2024 was the 10-year anniversary of that first get together, so now it’s a tradition. Between sickness and a funeral, our numbers were smaller this year, but it didn’t hamper the fun. A few friends have kindly shared their recipes.

Debbie and Rob Daniels of Caledonia brought “Meatballs (Sweet & Sour)”. This recipe is in the United Church of Canada cookbook entitled “Let’s Break Bread Together”. They received this book as a Christmas gift from Rob’s mom years ago. We have enjoyed this tasty classic dish many times over the years.

The “Vegetable Pizza” was made by Nancy Kett. Nancy and her husband Bob reside in Jarvis. This recipe is in the cookbook “Family & Friends of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fisherville, ON” submitted by Linda Drehmer. Nancy has found that it’s a recipe both kids and adults love.

Marilyn Anderson and her husband Jack, of Hagersville, arrived with the “Pulled Pork” in the slow cooker. The recipe was originally from her sister-in-law Arlene Everets. Marilyn was looking for something to bring to her workplace Christmas potluck. This recipe sounded good, so she thought she would give it a try. I don’t know if the staff at Canadian Tire in Caledonia knew that Marilyn was testing out a new recipe on them. Lucky for her (and them!) this dish was delicious.
