CALEDONIA—Caledonia may be getting an interchange connecting Sixth Line to the Highway 6 bypass, in addition to an already-planned arterial road to be constructed from a new intersection on McKenzie Road to the intersection of Argyle Street and Sixth Line.

The potential expansion to the project was brought forward in a letter of support from the Minister of Transportation regarding the interchange.

BT Engineering Inc., the consultant who has the contract for the current Caledonia Arterial Road study and design, has submitted an estimate to the County of $202,700 for the inclusion of the interchange. This, in addition to costs incurred in the original plan, would bring their total cost to $536,810. The project has an overall planning-to-completion budget of $2.4 million, with $1.2 million allotted for the engineering and investigative components of the project.

“The $2.4 million budget includes the environmental assessment, technical studies, design, contract administration, and property purchase. The cost to expand the scope of work to include the Argyle Street to Highway 6 bypass can be contained within the original budget for the Arterial Road Project,” said Kyra Hayes, Supervisor of Corporate Affairs for the County.
