Caledonia Food Bank receives boost from Holiday Smile Cookie campaign

CALEDONIA—The Caledonia and District Food Bank has been gifted $6,912.64 from this year’s Tim Hortons Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign, a welcome donation during a time of unprecedented demand.

“This donation is especially appreciated,” said Dorette Allemang, Manager of the Caledonia and District Food Bank. “Demand is up 30% from last year and 90% from 2019. We’re having to buy groceries weekly just to keep up.”

The food bank anticipates providing Christmas hampers to 120 households this year, a rise from 105 in 2023, as the community continues to face rising costs of living and food insecurity.

Caledonia Tim Hortons owner, Rachel Salverda, expressed her gratitude to the community.

“As the holidays approach, our team is thrilled to present this cheque to the food bank. We’re so grateful for our generous patrons who make this possible. Thank you to everyone who participated!” she said.

The Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign also supported other local groups, including the Hagersville Food Bank, Jarvis Caring Cupboard, True Experience, Everlasting Tree School, and the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps, which receives 50% of the funds raised.

Rebecca Stewart of Inclusions Developmental Services highlighted the joy the campaign brings to its participants.

“Our clients love giving back to the community,” she shared.

Program Manager Laura Andrews added, “Many of our clients were smiling themselves while making the cookies.”

The annual campaign continues to spread holiday cheer each year while supporting those in need across the community.
