DUNNVILLE—On December 1, 2022, Julie Marchese’s Care-A-Closet will be moving from their current location on Broad Street to the old Salvation Army building at 306 Maple Street.
The Salvation Army left that location in March of 2018, and the building has been generally vacant since. Marchese said, “Since the closure, I’ve never seen so many upset citizens. At that point I decided to keep trying to get it.”
With the help of a realtor, she has done just that. She added, “I made a decision based on the need of our community, and this is a huge need.”
Primarily, the building will be used by Marchese’s Care-A-Closet and Julia’s Old Fashioned Family Christmas charity, which she said, “Has helped hundreds of people in and outside of our community. We have donated to many organizations to help others.”
She is also working with many local community service agencies to see how they may expand their programming and reach to help residents in many other ways.
Marchese’s Christmas charity began in 2016 and the Closet opened in 2021 when it was approved as a charity organization.
Julia’s Care-A-Closet is a thrift shop/charity run entirely by volunteers who Marchese said had “put way over 8,000 hours in last year.” Items available at the store range from clothing to jewellery to toys to furniture and more.
Marchese concluded, “I would especially like to thank the volunteers. If it wasn’t for their time, effort, and caring this would not be possible.”
