CALEDONIA — Local teen Ava Ro is excited to see her Netflix debut this Friday. Following a successful release on Nickelodeon, Erin & Aaron is set to premiere on Netflix November 2, 2023.
As reported this spring, Ro landed one of the lead roles on the show, which follows two stepsiblings coming together through music. Ro said at the time how excited she was to be from a small Canadian town and booking a role on a major US network. Her Canadian heritage was a unique hurdle for her to overcome, even during filming.
“This storyline was so fun, and I cannot give any spoilers away. However, I will tell all my Caledonia hometown friends to listen closely. The cast and crew loved that I was Canadian. I brought everyone Tim Hortons coffee, Timbits, and ketchup chips,” shared Ro. “They thought my accent was hilarious and I had to work on my American accent and how I pronounced certain things like OUT and ABOUT and especially SORRY! By the end my mom noticed I was sounding like I was from California … but I am back to my normal Canadian self again.”

While her accent may have been a work in progress, Ro enjoyed every moment of creating the show.
“Filming this show was the most amazing experience. It was my first ever time filming a multicam sitcom on a massive Hollywood set and a whole learning curve. Nickelodeon is definitely the most organized, professional, and amazing group of people to work with,” she said. “The crew has worked together for years and it is literally like a family. I will never forget the chance they took on a smalltown Canadian girl and I will be grateful for the rest of my life!”
Ro is now waiting with bated breath to hear if the show will be picked up for a second season, a decision that is currently being delayed by the ongoing strikes in the industry. She is looking forward to the show making its debut on Netflix this week – her first ever work to air on the streaming service.
“Netflix has always been a huge goal! So to be on Netflix and Nickelodeon at the same time – this is a childhood dream come true!” said Ro. “I used to watch all the big Nick shows on Netflix growing up, especially Victorious. I used to watch Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande perform and wish I could be one of them. It still does not even feel real!”
Whether or not it feels real, Ava Ro’s success is certainly real to her community as we all cheer her on. Support Ro this Friday by checking out Erin & Aaron on Netflix.
“I really hope everyone enjoys the show, whether you are a kid or an adult. It is really great for families to watch,” she concluded. “I also hope to inspire kids who love music…. Never be afraid to put yourself out there and put everything into the thing you love most and it will always pay off.”
