CALEDONIA—A single vehicle collision that took place at approximately 3 a.m. on April 11, 2024 has claimed the life of 28-year-old Caledonia resident Mitchel Romberg.
Haldimand OPP, with assistance from Haldimand County Fire Services of Caledonia, as well as Haldimand County Paramedic Services, attended to the scene of the collision at the intersection of Argyle Street and Highway 6 in Caledonia.
The investigation determined that a sedan was involved in a collision, and the driver was ejected. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The collision led to roads in the area, including Argyle Street, Braemar Drive, and Highway 6 between Greens Road and Fifth Line to remain closed for the several hours.
A GoFundMe set up by close family friend Loralynn Cope-Spencer has raised over $14,000 as of publication to support the family in their time of need.
“I am asking the community to help this wonderful family in their time of need, parents are never prepared to lose a child,” said Cope-Spencer.
Cope-Spencer described Romberg: “He was known to many in Caledonia with many, many friends. Mitchel was a generous young man, always there for his family and anyone in need. The Romberg family Sherri, Bill, and Mitchel’s six siblings, are generous, helpful, kind people, always willing to lend a hand whenever asked and even went they aren’t.”
The raised funds will be donated to the family, to help them with the expenses of saying goodbye to their son.
Anyone with information related to the collision is asked to call the Brant County OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
“Our hearts go out to the entire Romberg family,” concluded Cope-Spencer.
