First event to make use of new washroom trailers

SELKIRK—Cottonwood Mansion Museum’s event venue was greatly increased thanks to the delivery of a two-unit washroom trailer and a one-unit fully accessible washroom trailer on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 (left). Cottonwood Mansion held their first Farmers Market, Craft and Tractor show on Saturday, August 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and boasted local craft vendors and farmers market shopping, plus mansion tours throughout the day. The purchase of the washrooms was made possible through a $77,400 resilient communities funding grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. On hand to accept delivery of the much-anticipated units were Clayt Spears, President of the historic site’s Cottonwood Mansion Preservation Foundation, and Museum Manager Iona Whatford. Spears pointed out that inasmuch as the units were manufactured near Exeter, Ontario, it took a lot of teamwork by Transport Sales & Service in Caledonia, which provided a special trailer to transport the units from Huron County to Haldimand County. In addition, upon the transport’s arrival, Selkirk Home Hardware stepped up to the plate by providing the necessary equipment to unload the precious cargo. Spears further remarked, “It’s this type of local support which is helping Cottonwood sustain itself for future generations.” For information on Cottonwood Mansion, visit cottonwoodmansionmuseum.com. —Submitted photo.

SELKIRK — Iona Whatford, Museum Manager, said the purpose of the new event on Saturday was to “connect with community members and make ourselves known to visitors … and to support local businesses.” She added that “it’s been very successful” and they hope to hold the event again, most likely in the spring. Shown at right is Kristina and Wyatt Wheatley of Hagersville, who came out with their dog Kora to check out the tractors on show at the event.

SELKIRK—There were five tractors on display ranging from antique to a brand-new model brought by Doughty and Williamson. Above, Jim Heaslip (left) of Jim and Guy’s Hart-Parr Haven, located at Nelles Corners, brought a tractor from his collection: a 1947 Empire that he acquired circa 1964. On the right stands Richard Kater of Katersale Farms in Selkirk with his 1959 John Deere, which he just became the owner of about three months ago.
