CALEDONIA—During the final minutes of last week’s Council session, Ward 3 Councillor Dan Lawrence spoke out about his frustration over ongoing “illegal” protests in Caledonia at the McKenzie Meadows development site.
“At ground zero, as we call it in Caledonia, this is an ongoing issue that won’t go away since 2006. Even for the sympathizers with regard to claims, and there are legitimate ones out there with protestors trying to bring them to the forefront. That’s why we need the federal government and the provincial government involved. They have the ability to make a difference. It’s time for them to stop acting like ostriches, burying their heads in the sand,” said Lawrence. “A big problem for us in Caledonia and other communities that suffer from this is the methodology that these people have taken – burning excavators, burning tires, destroying roads, that sort of thing.”
