Dismantle the toxic and expensive DEI bureaucracy in Haldimand County

To the Editor,

I have recently learned that our taxes in Haldimand County will be increased by 4.4%. It has also come to my attention that Haldimand County has established a Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). In other jurisdictions the bureaucracy accompanying a DEI program is exceedingly expensive, and is of highly questionable value.

Somehow we have managed in all the years of my life to get by just fine in Haldimand without this Marxist inspired and politically charged anti-European movement of “social warriors” which expanded exponentially after the death of the career criminal George Floyd in 2020. The damage caused by this program is just becoming apparent. For example, the death of a school principal in Toronto who dared to question the DEI instructor’s claim that Canada was a more racist country than the United States. He was mercilessly bullied by the instructor, and even his colleagues. He committed suicide. We don’t need toxic indoctrination programs which are designed to instill guilt for being white in the supposed service of uplifting designated marginalized groups.

My maternal family was the first to settle in Haldimand (deed from the Mississauga of the Credit 1 January 1784), and my ancestors include Europeans, Indigenous, and African-Americans. Why is DEI being imposed on the people of Haldimand? I refuse to believe that my successes are due to “white privilege” (a belief being promulgated in all DEI programs). The teaching of DEI and critical race theory are being banned in an increasing number of states in the US. It is also losing its grip in the Board offices of major corporations. DEI’s days are numbered.

My tax dollars should not to be deployed to line the pockets of bureaucrats purveying a divisive policy that will bring zero benefit to the citizens of my county. It is time to deconstruct DEI in Haldimand, and spend our tax dollars on projects that are obvious to all us locals. For example, how about dedicating the funds saved to help in replacing the single outdated dilapidated bridge crossing the Grand River in Caledonia!
