DUNNVILLE—After the Dunnville Chamber of Commerce’s annual general meeting (AGM) was postponed on February 12, 2019 due to inclement weather, it was forced to postpone the meeting for a second time on March 26 due to challenges brought forward by some attendees.

Dave Suess, who identified himself as a resident of Dunnville, raised concerns that “everything leading up to the agenda and this meeting is out of order” and therefore the Chamber Board should not move forward with anything on the agenda.

Mike Lessard, who was chairing the meeting, held a vote to move the agenda forward, but could not get the required number in favour.

One concern was that the current Board was never “inducted” by the mayor last year; however, Kyra Hayes, Supervisor of Corporate Affairs at Haldimand, said this is not a requirement.

She added  that only BIAs, not Chambers of Commerce, fall under the Municipal Act.

“There is no formal or legally mandated relationship between the County and local Chambers,” said Hayes.
