Fisherville Catch the Ace gains momentum as jackpot continues to grow

Jackpot reaches an estimated $27,900

FISHERVILLE—The Fisherville Lions Club Catch the Ace fundraiser is gaining momentum as it enters its 20th week, with excitement building and new faces joining the weekly draws.

Ron Maas, Director of the Fisherville Lions Catch the Ace, spoke with The Press this week to provide an update on the event’s progress.

“Catch the Ace is going quite well,” said Maas. “We’ve just completed week 19 and are going into week 20. The Ace of Spades is still hidden, obviously, and we’re starting to pick up some momentum.”

While sales remained steady during the most recent draw, Maas said there had been notable growth over previous weeks, with sales increasing by 10 to 15% at times.

He noted that recent weeks had also brought a wave of new participants to the Fisherville District Lions Community Centre, where tickets are sold.

The basic rules of the fundraiser remain the same. Tickets can only be purchased on Wednesdays at the hall, although arrangements can be made for someone to buy tickets on behalf of another person.
“You have to be in person to buy tickets, or have someone buy them for you, but you can’t buy them ahead of time,” Maas explained.

The combination of rising jackpots and increased participation is helping to create an energetic and social atmosphere – something Maas emphasized as an important part of the event’s success.

“It’s a great social event as well as a great fundraiser,” said Maas. “We’re seeing more and more new faces.”

In keeping with tradition, a portion of each week’s proceeds goes to the nightly winner, while the remainder builds the progressive jackpot and supports local charities.

On week 19, the progressive jackpot was an estimated $25,000; the weekly winner took home just over $1,650. In that week, over $42,000 had been raised for charities already, and that number will continue to grow the longer the fundraiser goes.

Funds raised so far have been directed toward causes such as food banks, hospitals, senior support programs, and this year a major focus is on hospice care.

The Fisherville Lions are continuing to encourage the community to get involved, either by purchasing tickets or spreading the word.

Looking ahead, Maas also noted that the club has a milestone celebration on the horizon.

The Fisherville Lions Club will mark its 70th anniversary on May 3, and all members of the community are invited to join the festivities. Further details about the event will be shared as they become available.
As the jackpot continues to grow and the Ace of Spades remains elusive, anticipation is mounting with each passing week. Maas remains optimistic about the momentum building behind the fundraiser and hopes to see even greater community participation as Catch the Ace moves forward.

Catch the Ace draws are held live on Facebook at 8 p.m. each Wednesday, offering participants a chance to witness the excitement firsthand.

For the Fisherville Lions Club, it is not only about raising money but about building community spirit – one ticket, one conversation, and one gathering at a time.
