HAGERSVILLE—As volunteers continue to search for the body of nine-year-old Alex Ottley in Lake Erie, the Hagersville Skating Club has announced it is working to create a bursary in honour of Alex that will go to families in need of assistance for children’s swimming lessons.

Alex has been presumed drowned after he went into Lake Erie on February 15, 2020 to rescue a friend that had fallen into the icy waters. While the other boy was pulled from the lake, Alex has yet to be found.

A GoFundMe was started February 16 to help the family pay for funeral costs and therapy for Alex’s sister, who was present at the time; it had raised almost $18,400 from 356 donors as of press time.
