To The Haldimand Press
CALEDONIA—On September 21, 2019 the Haldimand Horticultural Society had a very successful workshop with over 20 participants taking part.
We were like busy bees, very happy putting together our houses. The kits for the insect motel had all been pre-cut by Slack Lumber thanks to Sharon’s husband Neil Slack. They also had been pre-drilled with the necessary holes by Jim Eubank, who was kind enough to bring a drill press to the workshop and pre-drill all the logs and wood pieces that we were using in the houses. All this hard work resulted in some pretty nice insect condos. I’m sure we will have some happy pollinators hatching next spring, ready to pollinate all our gardens.
Each participant was able to take home info on how to properly install and maintain their prize insect motels, along with an application form to certify their garden as a wildlife-friendly habitat with the Canadian Wildlife Federation and have their garden put on a map so that we can all see Canada’s wildlife-friendly habitats grow.
