CAYUGA—Hockey Day In Cayuga will feature a variety of ways to support local athletes.
Several local hockey teams will showcase their skills on Saturday, September 13, 2025 with fundraising primarily supporting Cayuga Minor Hockey, the Haldimand River Kings, and the Haldimand Rivercats.
While admission is free, members of these teams will be on hand all day selling event programs, pucks for a Puck Toss, and 50/50 tickets. Nearly 1,000 young people between the ages of 3 and 22 will represent these Haldimand-based organizations.
An equipment swap will be presented by Stay Sharp Sporting Goods, while a free pancake and sausage breakfast will be presented by Smelser Meats.
Beginning 8 a.m. on game day, all Cayuga Minor Hockey players will show off their abilities, followed by a series of exhibition hockey games and a public skate.
The evening will feature an OHA Junior C home game between the Hagersville Hawks and the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats at 7:30 p.m., preceded by special guests, a live rendition of the National Anthem, the Legion Honour Guard, a sponsor hospitality area, and the Hagersville Hawks Blueline Club in McSorley Hall.
Community Living Haldimand (CLH) will also be present throughout the day with Loonie Dogs Day, presented by Cayuga Foodland, selling $1 hot dogs and drinks.
“No sporting event is complete without hot dogs!” said Brendan MacQueen of Cayuga Foodland. “We are pleased to support Hockey Day in Cayuga, a great hometown event.”
Bob Butella of CLH added, “Community Living Haldimand is excited to be part of this amazing community event, bringing people together to celebrate Cayuga and our hockey heritage.”

Everyone is encouraged to gather their empty cans and bottles for donation in the drop off bin at Hockey Day in Cayuga as part of Fisherville Lion Floyd Moerschfelder’s drive to support youth hockey and baseball teams.
Moerschfelder is in the process of crushing more than 250,000 cans to support minor sports, having donated over $30,000 to local teams so far by crushing about 1,000 cans a day.
“It’s a big fundraiser,” said Moerschfelder, now 86. “It’s something I can do, and a highlight for me.”
He has set his eyes on reaching $50,000 in donations. Anyone who is unable to bring their donations to Hockey Day in Cayuga is welcome to drop them off in the bins at Fisherville Tavern, Selkirk Townline and Concession 5 Walpole, and Kohler Side Road and Concession 3.
