Caledonia Corvairs

The Caledonia Corvairs had a shaky start against Fort Erie on January 23, 2020, who got a pair of goals around Caledonia’s first goal from Tyler Burnie. Fort Erie added to their lead less than a minute into the second. Burnie brought them back within one. Fort Erie scored again, and Caledonia’s Noah Caperchione lowered the gap before the end of the second.

Down by one at the start of the third, Caledonia suddenly found their stride and scored four times for the 7-4 win with goals from Nick Giunta, Danyk Drouin, Colt Corpse, and Caperchione on the empty net. Aidan Hughes made 13 saves on 17 shots first for Caledonia and Nick Clay finished the game, saving the remaining nine shots.

The Corvairs continued from that momentum, opening their January 25 game against Buffalo with goals from Joel Mazzilli and Drouin. Buffalo got one 28 seconds after Drouin’s goal, but James Valente answered back to keep the two-goal lead heading into the second. Burnie got the first goal of the second and Valente got his second a few minutes later. Buffalo answered both of these goals with goals of their own before the end of the period. Burnie got the only goal of the third to end the game 6-3. Nick Clay faced 21 shots in net.

January 26 the Corvairs finished their weekend with a tight game against Pelham. Dylan D’Agostino got the only goal of the first with only four seconds remaining in the period. Mazzilli added to the lead halfway through the second, which was returned by Pelham before the end of the period. Pelham tied the game in the third, but Burnie managed one more for the 3-2 win. Hughes returned to the net this game and made 18 saves.

Caledonia went to Buffalo on Wednesday after press time. Next, they head to St. Catharines January 31, host Welland February 1 at 7:30 p.m., and head to Hamilton February 3.
