Junior hockey update

Hagersville Hawks, PJHL

The Hawks began Round 1 in the playoffs against Port Dover on Feb. 8, 2020. While Port Dover got the only goal of the first, Hagersville soared back in the second with goals from Tycie Cowan, Bredan Judson, and Ralph Taggart. Port Dover managed to tie it up, but Cowan got his second to take the lead back on a penalty shot. Connor Stirling added to the lead in the third, and Cowan got his third for the hat trick. Port Dover scored again, but Patrick Sanelli put the final nail in their coffin for a 7-4 win. Avery Hartwick faced 24 shots in net. Hagersville was extremely well behaved and only received one minor penalty in the entire game, versus the Sailors 34 penalty minutes on nine infractions.

Game 2 followed a similar pattern as Port Dover got the only goal of the first, Matt Weston scored twice to take the lead, and Port Dover scored again to tie it in the second. The Hawks came away in the third with a goal from both Cowan and Taggart to win 4-2. Jamie Ferguson made 31 saves in net.

Game 3 was after press time on Feb. 11. Game 4 will be Feb. 13 in Port Dover. They will play until one team has four wins in the best-of-seven series. Game 5 is scheduled for February 15 in Hagersville at 7:30 p.m., Game 6 in Port Dover on February 16, and Game 7 would be February 18 in Hagersville at 8:30 p.m.
