WATERFORD—Kim Huffman is looking to bring her many years of public service to the forefront in the upcoming election as a proposed candidate for the Liberal party.

Huffman has 30 years of experience working in social services. After graduating, she worked in a municipal child care centre for Wellington County. From there, she moved on to the Rotary Children’s Centre in Guelph, and then spent 12 years working in children’s services for Waterloo Regional Municipality. For the last 17 years, she has been working for Haldimand-Norfolk Reach, specializing in child care and child services.

“I have chosen the Federal Liberal party as they align most closely with my fundamental principles,” explains Huffman. “I fully support all of our citizens being represented in all levels of government. I feel that it is vital that our communities are inclusive, we’re engaged, we provide opportunities for all different socio-economic groups.”

Huffman is currently serving as a municipal councillor for Ward 7 in Norfolk County and has a passion for local politics. She believes climate change is an imperative issue that must be dealt with, not just federally, but also locally, citing recent flooding issues in Dunnville, as well as record-high water levels in Lake Erie.

“Even if we don’t look at all the scientific evidence that is in front of our faces, our climate is changing. It is much different than it was in the 70s, 80s, and 90s,” explains Huffman. “There are a lot of funding opportunities available, in particular to rural Ontario, to help address these issues. We want to keep these climate change trends in mind when we’re looking at adding to our urban centres, assessing flood risks, and looking at ways to reduce our greenhouse emissions.”
