CAYUGA—Kreekside Construction Group Inc., a custom home building and renovations company, has purchased the building that used to house the Cayuga location of Miller Funeral Chapel to turn into their new office.

Kreekside President Kris Riley spoke about what made the location so appealing: “We loved the look and character of the building, as well as the size/footprint. We have a vision for the space and are very excited to update the building to exceed today’s standards.”

While he loved the character of the building, Riley said extensive work is being done to renovate the their standards. He explained, “The building has been completely gutted to the framing. We have removed 25 tons of old flooring, lathe and plaster, drywall, and panelling, exposing the original structure which we believe was built in the 1880s.”

He continued, “We have improved the structural integrity of the building by reframing much of the interior, as you can imagine a building of this age has some settling and ‘sagging’ where we do not want to see it. We will be completely insulating the building, changing all windows and doors to energy efficient products, all new electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, new flooring, kitchens and bathrooms, trim and painting.”

In addition to creating a new office space, Riley said they are in the process of building three brand-new apartments, “all with great views of the river,” while the showroom, design centre, and offices will be in the front of the building, accessible from the sidewalk.

He elaborated further on what potential tenants can expect from the apartments: “Spacious two-bedroom apartments, all with their own laundry rooms and quality kitchen cabinetry throughout. Each unit will have its own entrance from the exterior of the building.”

There will be one 1,350 square foot premier suite with a “large second floor deck overlooking the river, and 10’ ceilings in the main areas.”

The other two units will be around 1,000 square feet each, with one on the main floor and the other on the second floor. Riley added, “As we are improving the structure, we are making some unique cosmetic changes such as vaulting ceilings on the main level apartment.”

Current plans are for construction to be completed by next spring.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to rejuvenate a building that has been a staple in our society for such a long period of time,” Riley concluded on the project. “We are very excited to have a space to show off our work to our clients, and to have the facilities available to sit with our clients and design their home.”
