HALDIMAND—Lake Erie’s water levels have exceeded record levels that were previously set in 1986. Water levels surpassed previously-set record highs in May and continue to sit well above.

Lake Erie’s levels are 83 cm above average, 30 cm higher than last year, and 14 cm above record-highs that were set in July 1986, reported a National Hydrological Services Great Lakes Water Levels Information Memorandum on July 4, 2019. In June, levels rose 10 cm, which is five times the typical 2 cm increase.

The other Great Lakes also sit at above average, with most at record highs. In early July, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry updated Lake Erie to a Flood Watch based on high static lake level.
