Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney:

I am writing today with a serious concern about Highway 6 and the ongoing stream of highway collisions that occur near the intersection of Haldibrook Road.

This ongoing problem was highlighted by an area resident who lives on Haldibrook Road. She states there are collisions at the intersection on an almost-weekly basis. “I am terrified for my life each time I have to make that left-hand turn,” she wrote.

I also refer to The Haldimand Press article from 2020 that states there have been 166 collisions and 10 deaths on Highway 6 in two years. Although that article is two years old, the problem has not improved. The issue is not just at Haldibrook Road, but it seems to be the worst point. There are several other articles that illustrate the problem.

Personally, I lost a friend and his son, both of whom were tragically killed in a collision with a transport truck on Highway 6 near Walpole Concession 11 in 2018.

Over the years, many possible solutions have been put forward to remedy the problem.

These have ranged from a bypass around Hagersville, a direct connection to the Hamilton Airport, a stoplight, and others.

The time for idle talk is past. It’s time for action. If the ministry doesn’t have a solution at hand, then I suggest a traffic study with a short timeline and a promise to start remedies within a year.

In closing, many lives have been lost and altered through collisions on Highway 6 and this issue needs to be addressed.

Sincerely,

Bobbi Ann Brady
