CALEDONIA—A busload of New York City children arrived to stay with volunteer host families on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. The bus first stopped in Dunnville, then headed to Caledonia (shown above). A bus arrived a week earlier with more children, and several more busses are expected over the summer.

HALDIMAND—The Fresh Air Fund is all about giving New York City children a small-town summer experience.

Caledonia resident Lindsey David and her family signed up to be a Fresh Air Fund volunteer host family four years ago. The first year they were not matched and their second year their matched child never made it to Haldimand. Last year was their first year hosting a New York City child: 12-year-old Princeton.

Adding Princeton into the mix made this family of seven a family of eight, including Lindsey and her husband Michael Kinniburgh, for one week. Lindsey joked that with that many kids, one more only makes play time better!

Princeton got to experience new and exciting things in Haldimand. He got to tour the police station, sit in some of the police cars, and learn about their tactical gear. The family also took Princeton up to the trailer, where Princeton had his first-ever swim in a lake. Family outings also included trips to the splash pad and pool.
