Ride checkpoint nets impaired driver and stolen vehicle

CAYUGA—One person is facing impaired driving charges and a stolen vehicle was recovered after Haldimand County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint Friday morning in Haldimand.

On Friday December 9, 2022, at approximately 12:22 a.m., Haldimand County OPP members set up a RIDE checkpoint on Highway 54 in Cayuga. At approximately 12:51 a.m., officers interacted with a vehicle. It was determined that vehicle was reported stolen. One person was arrested and transported to Haldimand County OPP detachment for testing.

  • Police have charged a 30-year-old from Innisfil with the following offences:
  • Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration,
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada,
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code (2 counts), and
  • Driving While Under Suspension (3 counts).

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Cayuga at a later date.
