Passed away peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital on August 15, 2024 in her 82nd year. Predeceased by her husband Robert Walter Jantzi (2021) and her parents Menno Earl Stengel and Gertrude Elizabeth (Davis) of Selkirk, brother Earl Raymond Stengel (2017) and nephew James Earl Stengel (2019). Survived by sister-in-law Jean Stengel (Cripps), nieces Kathryn Stengel and Selina Stengel. Joyce is predeceased by her brother-in-law Paul Jantzi (2011). Survived by brother-in-law Bruce Jantzi, and sister-in -law Joyce Bauman (Lloyd). Survived by nephews and nieces Rebecca (Nick) Bauman, Christina (Bauman) and husband Kevan Arjune, Robin (Jantzi) and husband Matt Gallant and Shawn Jantzi and their families. Joyce worked at the Unemployment Office in Simcoe from 1960-1967 and then in Hamilton from 1967 until retiring in 1997. Joyce was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Hamilton. Special thanks to Summit Heights Retirement Home, and the caring nurses, Physicians and Palliative Team on 7 South at HGH who ensured that Joyce lived with dignity. Special thanks to cousins Sylvia and Tony Filice, for their unwavering support, and dedication to Joyce. Cremation has taken place. Joy was the beloved wife to her late husband William Alan Guest (2022), and devoted mother to Pamela Fletcher (Donald) and Terry (Kimberley). She was the cherished grandmother to Scott (Ashley), Keri (Dave), Jasmine (Matthew), Cameron (Lindsay) and Millar (Kiana). Dearly loved daughter of the late Robert and Beulah Sutor (nee Pridmore). Caring and loyal sister to the late Jack Sutor (Joan) and Ferne Nash (late Raymond). Unbreakable loving ties to Clarence (Gail), Robert (Marilyn), and the late Bill Sutor (late Lois). Dear sister-in-law to Joy Kohler (late Jack). Sadly missed by many cousins in the Sutor and Pridmore families. DICKHOUT, Loretta Bernadette

With deep sadness we share the passing of Loretta (Chick) Dickhout on July 3, 2024 in Orwell, New York at the age of 85. She will be sadly missed by her son, Stephen. Loretta was predeceased by husband, Graham; parents, William and Mary McDonald; brothers Bren and Lou; sisters Jean, Joan, and Rose; mother-and father-in-law, Gladys and Merton; sisters-in-law, Hilda and Pearl, and brothers-in-law, Trav and Larry. Loretta was born in Bishop’s Falls Newfoundland on July 23, 1938. She was educated by the Presentation Sisters in Bishop’s Falls, NL, and earned her RN at St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. She nursed at Botwood Cottage Hospital in NL for a short while, but as a newly graduated nurse moved to Dunnville and embarked on a successful nursing career at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, in the ER, on the Surgical and Cardiac floors, and as Evening Supervisor. She later became Director of Care at Grandview Lodge in Dunnville. She moved with her husband, Graham and son, Stephen to the US and continued her nursing career as Director at Willing Helpers Home for Women in Johnstown, NY. Loretta was a resident-volunteer nurse at Unity Acres in Orwell for over 20 years, until the time of her death. Since 2004 Loretta spent summers at her cottage on Lake Erie in Dunnville where she enjoyed the evening sunsets, fellowship at Sherbrooke Baptist Church, and the company of family and friends. She is survived by sisters-in-law Roberta House, Heather Dickhout, Vicky Cowlin, and Gloria Tobin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and England. She will be sadly missed by her co-workers, the many residents, and members (past and present) of the Unity Acres Community. Special thanks to Hospice of Jefferson County and Joan Shea (niece) who cared for her during her final weeks. A Funeral Service was held at Sacred Heart Chapel, Unity Acres. A Committal Service will be held in Dunnville at Sherbrooke Baptist Church on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with burial at Highbanks Cemetery. Lunch will be served following the service. She was a woman of strength and determination, strong faith, love for her family and friends, and protective of her son. Her motto in life: ‘Your work is your prayer’. April 16, 1954 – August 7, 2024 After an intense 2 year battle with cancer, Julie went to be with her Saviour. Beloved feisty wife of Brian for almost 52 years. Supermom to Paul, Amanda (Chad) and Scott (Jennifer). Fantastic Nana to Alexis, Devin, Dominique, Sofia, Nina, Zachary, and Rowan. Julie was a firecracker in life and will be missed by all those who took the time to know her well. She had a strong personality and a strong faith. She spent much of her life blessing others, especially with her sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Her Lord has called her home, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” Julie lived well. INGLIS, Thomas Campbell

January 6, 1927 – August 6, 2024 It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Inglis announce his peaceful passing at Edgewater Gardens on August 6, 2024, in his 98th, surrounded by his family. Tom was born on January 6, 1927 in Stirling, Scotland. His family arrived in Canada when Tom was 2 and eventually settled in Dunnville. He drove transport for Phillips for several years and was later employed as Foreman for the Town of Dunnville Public Works. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Dunnville and was a former member of the Dunnville Lions Club. Tom spent many hours entertaining and spoiling his grandchildren. He loved the farm, his horses and enjoyed leisurely buggy rides on country roads. Tom is survived by his loving wife Mona (Meyer) of 65 years, daughter Anne Marie (Rob) Queh and son, Scott (Carmen) Inglis; his grandchildren, Liam, Niall and Aubin Queh and Katherine (Isaac) Thomas, Ethan and Jaxon Inglis, and great grandchildren Aaliyah, Clara and Isiah Thomas. Also survived by his sisters -in-law June Inglis and Mabel († Pat) Livingstone, brothers-in-law Ed Meyer (Kathleen), Bob Slaght (†Martha), Joe Wiseman († Isabelle). Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Catherine Inglis, brothers Peter (Doris) and Bill, sisters Katherine Kriter (Stan) and Isabelle (Lloyd Wilson). He was uncle to many nieces and nephews and is remembered by his extended family and friends. Our family would like to thank Edgewater Gardens for their respect, compassion, and patience as they provided care for Tom over the past few years. Peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital on Monday August 5, 2024 in his 71st year. Beloved son of Shirleyan and the late A.E. “Bud” Peart. Loving brother of Grace and Evan McKeen, and Don and Shana Peart. Special brother to Barb and brother-in-law to Drew Parkinson. Uncle to Andrea and Pat, Victoria and Davin, Emaleigh, Davin, MaKayla and John, Keaton, Isla, and Cash. Nelles enjoyed his membership in the Bethel Gospel Tabernacle. He will be missed by his family at Verolens Rest Home. Much gratitude to the late Mrs. Veronica Dunbar, her daughters Yvonne and Michelle, and all the staff for your love and care. Thanks to Mark and Laurie for your support and special outings. Even with his own struggles, Nelles always wanted to help others. He collected tabs from cans for his whole adult life to donate for wheelchairs. The family would like to continue the collection in his honour. DOYLE, Mary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Doyle on August 9, 2024. Mary was the daughter of Frances and Daniel Columbus of Port Dover. Mary is predeceased by her husband William (2007) of 59 years married, dear sister of Aidan Columbus and her twin sister, Helen (Ambrose) Doyle, her sister-in-law Eileen Doyle and brother-in-law Vincent Doyle (Margaret). She is survived and adored by her six children, Bill and Chris, Dan and Joan, Mary Angela and †Drew. Gordon, Theresa and Jack Pyke, Robert and Kate and Christine and Jamie Brooks. The beautiful aspect of twin girls marrying the Doyle brothers enriched our family and Mary had a special place in her heart for Helen and Ambrose’s children, Leonard and †Barb (Wellings). Proud and cherished grandmother to Emily (Daniel), Bill (Linh), Dr. Jim Doyle (Kate), Joey, Sarah (Mike), John (Kait), Danika, Sam and Jason. Mary was so proud of her thirteen great-grandchildren, Jake, Liam, Owen, Jack, Alicia, Brianna, Colin, Zara, Parker, Wes, Mason, Ivie and Avery. Following Mary’s school years in Port Dover and Simcoe, she worked at the Bank of Commerce in Simcoe. Upon marriage, she moved to Hwy 6 outside Caledonia and worked hard alongside her husband William on their dairy farm and provided her family with many happy treasured memories. Mary loved and enjoyed her neighboring friends in their farming community. Mary believed strongly in the sense of community and gave back often whenever she could. She was an active volunteer in many organizations and frequently advanced to the level of president or director. These organizations included the West Haldimand Hospital Auxiliary and she received the West Haldimand Life Member Award and Provincial Life Member Award. Mary was also a Director of the West Haldimand Hospital Foundation. She was also an active member and president of the Willow Grove Women’s Institute, the Friendly Club in Caledonia, St. Patrick’s Women’s League and the Haldimand Horticultural Society where she achieved a life membership award. Mary was a 4-H leader and coordinator of the Caledonia Blood Donor Clinic for many years, a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels, the Cancer Society and the HN Senior Support Services. She was humbled and proud to be selected the first Citizen of the Year in Caledonia and was chosen as Haldimand’s Senior of the Year the following year. We are so very proud of our Mother who was always willing to lend a helping hand, always kind, caring and considerate, witty as all get out, respectful and always loved and welcomed everyone into her home. This world as we know it will not be the same. May 11, 1963 – August 1, 2024 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Freeman Johnson, on August 1, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. Freeman was best known for his love of auctions, farming events and anything tractor related. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and his dry sense of humour always kept you guessing. He took great pride in being an active member of both the Walpole Antique Farm Machinery Association and the 1st Ontario Two Cylinder Club. Freeman leaves behind his wife Suzie Johnson and daughters Megan and Amy Johnson. He will be deeply missed by siblings Dan and Judy Montour, Marion (late Ron) Garlow, Ross and Joanne Johnson, Joyce Longboat, John and Judy Johnson, Jane (late Chuck) Garrow, and Wendy Johnson. He will also be missed by in-laws Barb and Gray Stewardson, Joel Stewardson and Melissa Pursley, and Jennifer and Tim Rice. He is predeceased by parents Ross and Muriel Johnson, siblings Wanda and Les Horvath, Pat and Herm Montour, Marsha and Wayne Skye, Bonnie Derouchie, Tim Johnson and cherished uncle Tom Montour. He will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. THOMPSON, Beverly Doreen (nee Bain)

Beverly Doreen Bain Thompson passed away in her sleep in good hands at Royal Jubliee Hospital in Victoria, B.C. on June 21, 2024 in her 95th year. She leaves behind her sons Glenn (Shirley) of Parksville, British Columbia and Dale of Victoria, B.C. Grandsons Denny (Candice) and Ryan of Grand Prairie, Alberta. Great-grandchildren Reeve, Tyler, Emma and Zac, all of Grand Prairie, Alberta. Predeceased by husband Eddie (1990), parents Leo Bain (1976) and Marjorie Bain (Keefer) (1991) all of Caledonia, Ontario. Beverly moved to Victoria, B.C. in 1999 because she loved the climate and the beauty of the city. Travelling extensively throughout her life she went to Las Vegas, Arizona and Hawaii many times. She also went to Barbados, Cuba, England, Scotland, Australia, Dominican Republic, Aruba and Florida for five winters. Beverly was a member of the Caledonia Agricultural Society, a founding member of the Golden Horseshoe Antique Society and started up the Caledonia Diamonds girls hockey club in the mid 1960’s. Cremation has taken place. A small family service and interment will take place at the Caledonia cemetary at a later date. “SHE DID IT HER WAY”
