It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Violet Marie Reynolds (nee Troke) announces her passing on Thursday August 3, 2023 at the age of 88 from West Haldimand General Hospital.  Back in the loving arms of her beloved husband Roy, her son Richard and great granddaughter Marissa. Also predeceased by her sisters, Ethel Hoover and Helen Nichols and her daughter in-law Sylvia. Violet will be greatly missed by her children, Carol of Jarvis, George (Ted), (Norma) of Pincher Creek Alberta and Dawn (Mike) of London. Violet will be forever cherished by 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the staff of the West Haldimand General Hospital for the care and compassion mom received in her final days.Friends are invited to visit family on Tuesday August 8, 2023 from 10 am, until the time of service at 11 am at COOPER FUNERAL HOME, 19 Talbot Street, Jarvis, Ontario. Peacefully at the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, Dunnville on Monday, July 31, 2023 at the age of 85 years.  Son of the late Lawson and Clara (Everets) Smelser.  Brother of Armin (deceased) (Ann), Carl, Margaret (Harvey) (both deceased), Jim (Ruth), Roy (Linda), and Ruth (deceased).  Uncle to several nieces and nephews.  Funeral will be held at Hyde & Mott Chapel, 60 Main St. S. , Hagersville on Friday August 4, 2023 at 1 pm. Peacefully at Stedman Community Hospice, Brantford on Sunday July 30, 2023 at the age of 92 years.  Husband of the late Verna Ann (Long) Sommer.  Step-father of Gary.  Step-grandfather of Kyle, Kelly, and Brandilee.  Brother of Alie, Bill, Hank, Jane, Anne, Ron, Mary, and the late Metje, Cathy, Murray, Joanne, Harry, and Rita.  Uncle to many nieces and nephews.  Frank will be lovingly remembered by special friend & care giver Joanne.  He immigrated to Canada from Holland at the age of 18 years, and was very involved in his community as a volunteer firefighter and many other activities.  A graveside service will be held at Kohler Cemetery on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 1 p.m. A light lunch to follow at Shelley’s.  As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to West Haldimand General Hospital Foundation or to the Stedman Community Hospice.  Arrangements by Hyde & Mott Chapel, Hagersville.  www.rhbanderson.com

HOOVER: Walter Duncan ‘Wally’

With sadness and hearts full of gratitude for a life lovingly led, we announce the passing of Walter ‘Wally’ Hoover on Friday, July 21, 2023. Recently predeceased by his sweetheart, wife and best friend, Carole. Cherished father and friend to Randy (Sharon), Sandy (Jim), Jimmy (Debbie) and Suzanne (late John). Adored Papa to Erin (Emma), Sarah, Kori, Cody (Michelle), Sheldon (Mitchell), Maggie-Mae, Connor (Rachel), Mackenzie (Justin), Justine (Jarred), AJ (Kristen), Tammy. Greatest Papa to Fox, Hazel, Jace, Nova, Blake, Everette. Walter will be deeply missed by his brother Ken (late Barb), sister Sharon (Don) Adshead, cousins, nieces and nephews. Many dear friends share in the family’s grief including Ron and Olive Armstrong and his musical band of brothers, The Tuxedo Bluegrass Boys. He reunites with beloved parents Duncan and Jean Hoover and sister Lois (Jack) Bowden. Walter was a man of few words and many talents. Most notable was his gift for music and fiddle playing. He traveled near and far, jamming and creating many lasting friendships along the way. He was a founding member of Skyway Bluegrass. Performing alongside his son Jimmy in The Tuxedo Bluegrass Boys for the past eleven years was the highlight of his music career. His hospitality was second to none, whether it be a homemade bottle of wine or a plate of his infamous spaghetti and meatballs. A founder of the Glanbrook Rangers, journeyman with Local 67 and member of the Caledonia Baptist Church, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to his community.  Walter lived a full life and left this world knowing so. He was deeply proud of every one of his family members. His heart simply wasn’t able to carry on without his darling Carole. He passed onward naturally and peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 8th from 6:30-8:30pm at the Caledonia Baptist Church, 401 Argyle St South, Caledonia. Celebration of life service for Walter will be on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, at 11:00 am, at the Caledonia Baptist Church. Private burial to follow at a later date. February 24, 1943 – July 29, 2023It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Allan (“Sonny”) Timson on Saturday, July 29, 2023 in his 81 st year. Allan will be lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley, having just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He will be sadly missed by his sons Rick (Wendy) and Scott (Kim). Special Papa/Grandpa to Ciara (Lee), Lucas, Devon and Hannah. Allan was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Wilma Timson, sisters Shirley Saunders (Bert) and Ethel Vanderkolk and sister-in-law Joan Day (Bob). He is survived by his sister June Wise (Jack), brother-in-law Fritz Vanderkolk and sister-in-law Lynne Ward (Frank). Allan will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Prior to retiring in 2013, Allan worked at Royal Oak Dairy in Hamilton for over 20 years followed by 20 years at Hewitts Dairy in Hagersville. Special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at AbleLiving, Hagersville. Peacefully at Anson Place, Hagersville surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 in her 87th year. Wife of the late Gordon Mitchell (2019). Loving mother of Linda (Ross) Morgan, Chris (Lloyd) Betar and Beth (Ron) Berg. Cherished grandmother of Travis, Robert (Jenny), Aaron (Margarita) and Beau. Great grandmother of Taylor, Mitchell, Mae, Alison, Rebecca, Phillip, Steven and Christopher. Sister of Brian (Marcia), Kay Edwards, and Peggy (Neil) Pankhurst. Sister-in-law of Elgin Mitchell, Helen Dosser, Sandra Smelser and Elspeth Smelser. Predeceased by brothers Doug, Ron, Don, Fred and Leroy.  Audrey spent most of her life farming, was involved in Knox Presbyterian Church (now Jarvis Community Church) for many years, she loved baking and making pies, catering, Bazaar’s and was a member of the Haldimand Quilters Guild as a Lifetime Member. November 20, 1941 – July 19, 2023 Lanny entered into heaven on Wednesday July 19 2023 at the Hamilton General Hospital. Beloved husband of Marie (Parker) for 55 years. Loving father of Garth Salmon (Nancy Melaney) and Marla Iyer (Vikram). He will be missed by his grandchildren Cody Melaney (Blayre), Alexis and Cassidy Salmon, Maverick, Parker, Luke, and Archie Iyer. Great grandfather to Sloane Melaney. Predeceased by his parents Leslie and Elsie (Sheldrick) Salmon, his sister Elaine (late Edwin) Massie. Brother-in-law of Ross (Diane) Parker, Joan (late Peter) Emery and Brent (Wendy) Parker and uncle of many nieces and nephews. Survived by his mother-in-law Lois Parker. Lanny was a 32nd degree Mason and member of St Andrew’s Lodge #62 as well as Caledonia Chapter. He was a life member of the Caledonia Men’s Club. After retiring as a maintenance foreman with the Wentworth County School Board, Lanny spent many hours in his woodshop. It seemed as if there were always friends in the shop with him working on various projects. This led to many coffee breaks and much conversation. The jury is out whether they spent more time drinking coffee or actually working! Lanny will be greatly missed by his woodworking friends and coffee buddies. Over the years, Lanny was also involved in many community activities from volunteer firefighting to the masonic library to church endeavours. He was quick to lend a hand with his carpentry skills whenever needed and never shied away from giving you his opinion! He had a generous heart that in the end just needed a rest. Donations can be made to Grace United Church Caledonia, a food bank of your choice, or the Scottish Rite Learning Centre for Dyslexia (dyslexiacentrehamilton.com).A short Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday July 29 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Church Caledonia followed by a brief Masonic Memorial Service. May 8, 1944 – July 14, 2023It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Harold Lloyd Kreller at the age of 79 years.  Born in Hamilton to the late George & Winnifred Kreller.  Very special brother to Jerry (Judy), loved brother of Eugene of Hagersville, Gail Teichroeb (late Bill) of B.C., and Deanna (Dave) Gawley of Burlington.  Uncle to Steven Kreller, Heida Baxter (Stephen), Rebecca Hanson (Larry), Bonny (David) of B.C., and William Teichroeb (Emily) of B.C.  He also leaves behind several great nieces & nephews.  A funeral service will be held at the Gateway Church, 15 Haldimand Rd. 66, Caledonia on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11 am. March 18, 1936 – July 17, 2023 Peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer with his family at his side, Alex made his way home to Jesus.  Loving husband to Ellen Bakker.  Amazing father to Wendy (Denis), Maxine (Tom), and Darlene (Paul).  Special grandfather to Michelle (Alex), Nicole, Darrin (Maryna), Luc, Danielle (Joe), Kyle, and Olivia.  Great grandpa to Lucian, Finnick, Barrett, and Marshall.  Special “Dad” to Rick (Deb), Ed (Terry), Don (Renee), Dave (Becky) and families.  Loving brother to Louise (2023) (John) (2001), Stan (2005) (Joan) (2023), Skip (2018) (Jean), Elmer (2019) (Florine), Jennie May (Don) (2016), Tony (Ruthanne) (2018), and Dorothy (Grant).  Survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends Gord &  Ann Akins, Dave, Jake, Charlie, and Dennis. Alex was a First General Roads Forman for the County of Haldimand in 1967, Kohler Fire Department for 40 years, an avid camper, traveller, farmer, and jack of all trades.  Always willing to lend a hand to help and eager to take a drive to see something around the country side.  A true gentleman.  Special thanks to nurse Jenna!
