HAGERSVILLE—RF Almas Company Ltd. celebrated their 65th anniversary as a family-run business this September.

Today, brothers David Almas and John R. Almas own the business.

The company was originally started in 1955 by Robert Francis Almas at 5 Marathon Street in Hagersville, across from Tim Hortons. The property is still owned by the company, though they moved to 2146 Sandusk Road in 2002. Under RF Almas the company focused mostly on asphalt work.

In the 1970s John H. Almas, the son of Robert, took over the company and moved into sewer, watermain, and road construction. His own sons, David and John R., followed in the his footsteps and started working full time at the company in 1985.

“I did have that idea,” David said about wanting to continue working in the company after he started working for them as a teenager during summers. He said he really enjoys the work as “every job is different and has its own challenges.”
