CALEDONIA—Construction of the $6 million Riverside Exhibition Centre is nearing completion, and once complete, it will be unlike any building in Haldimand County.
The two-storey building was originally built in 1970 at the Caledonia Fairgrounds. The footprint of the building remains the same, but the inside has been given a complete makeover.
The Caledonia Agricultural Society (CAS)’s renovation project includes a main floor (1,400 square feet) that will be able to accommodate 500 to 750 people seated at tables, and over 1,000 people seated theatre style. The main floor has a stage that is 70 feet wide by 20 feet deep.
“We don’t have anything like this in Haldimand County,” said Jodie Easson, Marketing Chair, CAS. She added that one of the main goals of the building was to not only create a performance space, but also an accessible space. The building has two elevators: one for the stage and one going from the first to second floor.
